COMPUTERS AND MOBILE DEVICE CHAPTER 3

Difference Between Mobile Computer and Mobile Devices is that A mobile computer is a personal computer you can carry from place to place. Similarly, a mobile device is a computing device small enough to hold in your hand. While mobile devices, which are small enough to carry in a pocket, usually store programs and data permanently on memory inside the system unit or on small storage media such as memory cards.

A mobile computer is a personal computer you can carry from place to place. Similarly, a mobile device is a computing device small enough to hold in your hand. The most popular type of mobile computer is the notebook computer. There are several types of mobile computers that benefit businesses in industries across the globe. Each type comes in a variety of sizes, shapes, and styles with features unique to certain environments.
For example, there are vehicle-mount mobile computers that attach to trucks and forklifts and handheld devices for environments that where the potential for explosions exists. There are even wearable computers that expedite processing in warehouses and protective sleds that turn consumer tablets and smartphones into enterprise-ready devices.

A terminal server is a device which physically has a network connection (typically wired Ethernet) on one side, and one or more serial ports on the other side. In modern usage, this facilitates reverse telnet, meaning the ability to access a serial or “console” port (typically RS-232) remotely through the network via serial text encapsulation protocols (originally telnet, now typically ssh). It also facilitates connection of many terminals to a host through a network, hence the name. That was the most common application in early academic computer labs, where the host might be a mainframe computer located elsewhere on campus, with a connection to a campus network, and terminals might be spread throughout campus, some in individual faculty’s offices, others in large labs for student use. Nowadays, terminal servers are mostly used for remote emergency maintenance on Internet and telecom equipment which has become inaccessible through the network due to misconfiguration, lack of configuration, or loss of transit.

A notebook computer, also called a laptop computer, is a portable, personal computer often designed to fit on your lap. Notebook computers are thin and lightweight, yet can be as powerful as the average desktop computer. A netbook, which is a type of notebook computer, is smaller, lighter, and often not as powerful as a traditional notebook computer. Offering the convenience of one-handed operation, a smart phone is an Internet-enabled phone that usually also provides personal information management functions such as a calendar, an appointment book, an address book, a calculator, and a notepad. In addition to basic phone capabilities, a smart phone allows you to send and receive e-mail messages and access the Web.

Gaming device is any device which is used directly or indirectly in conducting a game. It is designed for playing a game for money or a prize. Gaming device is used solely for the purposes of amusement or entertainment or gambling. Gaming device can be mechanical, electromechanical or electronic equipment.  Gaming device means any equipment or mechanical, electromechanical or electronic contrivance, component or machine used remotely or directly in connection with gaming or any game which affects the result of a wager by determining win or loss.

Embedded computer systems go by many names (Box PC, Gateway, Controller, Industrial PC etc), but an Embedded PC is essentially any specialized computer system that is implemented as part of a larger device, intelligent system or installation. Embedded computers come in an endless array of shapes and sizes, from the tiny ARM-based devices that power today’s smartphones, to all-in-one solutions that run huge earth movers and military equipment. Embedded computers are also playing a key role in the evolving Internet of Things, enabling the connections between machines, people, places, things and the cloud.

Pots is an acronym for plain old telephone service, which refers to the standard low speed, analog telephone service that is still used by most homes and many businesses. POTS stands for “plain old telephone service.” It refers to analog telephone service carried over traditional landlines. These lines are cooper and based on the Bell Telephone system. Homes and businesses alike can use landline phones to connect via POTS to a central office and other long distance facilities.
