THE INTERNET CHAPTER 2
The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks. It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANet. The original aim was to allow scientists at different physical locations to share information and work together, also network could continue to function even if parts of it were destroyed in the event of a military attack or other disaster. In 1984 ARPANET has more than 1000 individual computers linked as hosts and now over millions of hosts connect to the internet.
The type of Internet service that has been choosed will largely depend on which Internet service providers (ISPs).Wired is the term refers to any physical medium consisting of cables. DSL (digital subscriber line) and Fiber to The Permisses (FTTP) are the examples of wired.Wireless is the term refers to medium made of electromagnetic waves or infrared waves. All the wireless devices will have antenna or sensors, such as Satellite Internet, Service,WiFi, and mobile broadband.
The most widely used part of the Internet is the World Wide Web (often abbreviated "WWW" or called "the Web"). Its outstanding feature is hypertext, a method of instant cross-referencing. Using the Web, we have access to billions of pages of information. The World Wide Web (WWW) is a network of online content that is formatted in HTML and accessed via HTTP. The term refers to all the interlinked HTML pages that can be accessed over the Internet.Web browsing is done with a Web browser, the most popular of which are Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Overview of media technology on the web is that provide support for audio and video playback, manipulation, and recording. If you're not sure which API you should use, this is the place to start. The audio element is used to play audio in a Web context. These can be used invisibly as a destination for more complex media, or with visible controls for user-controlled playback of audio files. The video element is an endpoint for video content in a Web context. It can be used to simply present video files, or as a destination for streamed video content. Animation is a dynamic medium in which images or objects are manipulated to appear as moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed and exhibited on film. Graphics are visual images or designs on some surface, such as a wall, canvas, screen, paper, or stone to inform, illustrate, or entertain. Virtual reality is the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.
Internet Services allows us to access huge amount of information such as text, graphics, sound and software over the internet. Following diagram shows the four different categories of Internet Services. There are various Communication Services available that offer exchange of information with individuals or groups.
